Where Do the Classes Meet and What Time do They Start?

Click on this link Parking Lot "A" for a map of the HCC Campus. The class will meet in parking lot "A." Please use the East entrance only to access the parking lot. We will all ride to get lunch or you may bring your own. All classes start at 7:45 am and end around 5 pm.

What if it RAINS?

I check the weather daily as each class date approaches. If it looks like scattered showers,  light rain (less than 1/4 inch) or intermittent thunder storms, the class WILL be held. If you don't hear from me (via phone or email) assume that the class will go forward.

If the weather forecast predicts a 60% or more chance of rain and the amount is going to be 1/2 inch or more, the class WILL NOT be held. If a class is going to be canceled I will email/call everyone that has registered and let them know (even if there is going to be a hurricane). For some reason some students don’t provide a phone number or email when they register. In that case you will need to call/email me (contact info below) to find out for sure if the class is a go.

Riding Gear

Howard Community College is changed their policy regarding the wearing half helmets for motorcycle training. Starting in 2011, students must wear either a 3/4 or full-face helmet. No half helmets will be allowed even if they are DOT approved. Other protective gear includes; a riding jacket (or mesh jacket), riding pants (leather chaps or mesh pants are OK), gloves, boots that cover the ankle. Jeans and fingerless gloves are not allowed, but Kevlar jeans will be accepted. DOT race compound tires are not recommended.

Total Control Advanced Riding Clinic
Level 2

Total Control Advanced Riding Clinic, Level 2 starts where the Level 1 class left off. Included are more challenging exercises from the best-selling book Total Control plus some exciting new ones that will allow students to take their riding to a whole new level. Hard braking, trail braking, clutchless up-shifting, rev-matching down-shifting, decreasing radius turns, multiple apex turns, bike setup and more will be featured in this follow-up to the most effective advanced riding curriculum on the market. Cost of the class is $325.

Topics covered include:

  • Riding Psychology (why we ride)
  • Speed Shifting (clutch-less up-shifting and rev-matching down-shifting)
  • Trail Braking into a Turn
  • Decreasing Arc Mid-Corner
  • Decreasing Radius Turns (3 ways to tighten your line)
  • Chassis Setup
  • Quick Stops (stopping in the shortest possible distance)
  • TC Solo (road course puts it all together)
In TC Solo, we combine the skills from Levels 1 and 2, and experience them at significantly higher speeds, mimicking the g-forces of track riding. Students will be given individual feedback on how they use the Total Control techniques and riding skills technology. The TC Solo exercise is similar to a Battle Trax close circuit course except that it is not timed and there is only one student at a time on the practice range.

Students MUST have completed the Total Control Advanced Riding Clinic, Level 1 as a prerequisite BEFORE taking Level 2.

The Level 1 prerequisite for taking Level 2 has nothing to do with how accomplished a rider you may be. Level 1 is the basis for the riding techniques taught in Level 2. Without the experience of a Level 1 class you will be left behind.
